In the 30th session of the dialogue series "Coaching Meets AI," the AI coaching that Harald Geißler had initiated with Dorothee in the previous session was continued.
This involved building upon the structured summary provided by the AI in the last session and verifying whether and to what extent it aligned with the perception of the coachee, Dorothee. For
this purpose, the coach (Harald) copied the AI’s summary into the next prompt and reviewed it with the coachee, sentence by sentence. Through this process, the AI’s summary was significantly
revised.
The session began with a discussion of the current state and then moved on to the desired future state that the coachee aspired to.
Participants
Current State
- Challenge: During practical work with horses, participants focus too much on the animals instead of on their leadership challenges and self-reflection. This leads to frustration and helplessness for Dorothee.
- Typical Situations: Particularly at the beginning of the practical phase, when participants are in direct interaction with the horses, a “horse hypnosis” occurs, diverting attention from leadership tasks.
- Coach’s Reaction: Dorothee provides diplomatic, direct reminders to bring participants back to the tasks. She feels time pressure and the need to strictly adhere to her program, which results in giving participants insufficient space for reflection.
Desired State
-
Goals:
- Participants should focus more on their own perceptions, leadership skills, and behavioral reflection.
- Interaction with the horses should be understood as a tool for personal development, not merely as an isolated experience.
-
Strategy:
- Create space for mental processing and reflection after direct interaction with the horses.
- Focus on the quality of reflection processes rather than rigid adherence to time schedules.
Analysis of Problem Causes
-
Vicious Cycle:
- The time pressure and program structure prevent Dorothee from giving participants sufficient space for reflection.
- Her solution of providing direct reminders to refocus on tasks unintentionally exacerbates the problem.
-
Personal Background:
- Dorothee identifies an old pattern from her previous office work: a constant internal time pressure and a need to control everything meticulously, which unconsciously influences her coaching behavior.
Immersive Visual Work
- Visual Reflection: A visual representation of Dorothee’s internal time pressure and perceived stress was chosen to highlight the dynamics of the vicious cycle.
-
Insights:
- The fixation on schedules and external control conflicts with the necessary process orientation in coaching.
- Dorothee wants to create more space for reflection in the future and focus less on structural perfection.
- Next Steps: In the next session, a visual representation of the desired state will be chosen to further refine the solution approaches.
Participant Feedback
- Samira: The session highlighted that the actual coaching problem differs from the initial assumption. The targeted questioning helped refine the problem.
- Harald: A contradiction was identified: the desired emotional connection of participants with the horses simultaneously hinders the implementation of leadership tasks.
The session concluded with planning further steps to resolve the problem and sending the chat transcript to Dorothee.
